Description

A striking holder for everything from blossoms to fruits and vegetables to whatever the imagination conjures up, Kubus Bowl is based on original sketches by iconic Midcentury designer Mogens Lassen. Evoking the form-follows-function ethos of the Bauhaus school, it's a natural extension of its creator's geometric tabletop series. Unstintingly crafted in Denmark by family firm By Lassen, it comes in a choice of large, small and diminutive mini sizes and brass, black or white finishes.

Renowned Danish brother architects Mogens and Flemming Lassen created their works separately but share an iconic design legacy that was rekindled in 2008 with the founding of By Lassen. Headed by Søren Lassen—the grandson of Mogens—the Danish family business focuses on relaunching the iconic furnishings created by Mogens (1901-1987) and Flemming (1902-1984) that in their lifetime were only suggested in sketches or alternatively produced as singular pieces or prototypes, several for the yearly Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen, and subsequently consigned to the architects’ own homes and later commanding stratospheric prices at auction.

Søren Lassen is also a notable designer in his own right, inaugurating his Kubus series for the company’s 10th anniversary in 2018. He has also introduced pieces from other young talent that reflects the functionalist style of his forebears with clean lines and a geometric design language. Mogen’s minimalist but voluptuous seating proportions live on in pieces like the Tired Man armchair and Wilhelm sofa while Flemming, inspired by an early encounter with Le Corbusier in Paris, took a more angular route with output like his aptly named Frame storage range. “It is By Lassen’s vision to share the Lassen brothers’ legacy with the coming generations,” says the founder, “as beacons of the Danish design tradition that has inspired so many design talents.”
